Upcoming Events:
Kansas at Pozo
On Sunday, July 2nd, the band Kansas will be at the
Pozo Saloon. Kansas was a
popular band in the 70's with hits like "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry on
Wayward Son". Pozo is
located east of Santa Margarita and in many respects hasn't changed much
from when it was a stage coach stop in the Civil War era. Pozo offers a unique experience for anyone
that enjoys a laid back venue with great music and fun.
You have to try the Pozo Martini.
A Beer and Olive drink that's worth the adventure.
California Mid State Fair
"Blue
Jeans and Country Dreams" that's what the
Mid State Fair is all about. Starting
July 26 and ending August 6, it is one of the largest fairs in California.
Featuring a Midway, Crafts, Livestock, Rodeo, and Entertainment.
The "Evening of Wine and Music" Concert
at the fair August 4 is an absolute
must attend. It's a chance to enjoy great local wines and listen to
some great music. This year is Michael Bolton, with seven top 10
albums and two - #1 singles .

Wine Corner:
(A Brief
review of local Paso Wines)
Pinot and Paella
This is a follow up to the Pinot and Paella annual festival discussed in
last months Upcoming Events.
This was a great
opportunity to enjoy some great Pinots. Pinot Noir is not normally
associated with Paso, but Paso has areas on the Westside with coastal
influence producing micro climates which are yielding some good fruit.
There were eleven
wineries pouring at this year's festival. Windward is the sponsor
of the event and in my opinion had the best Pinot at this year's event. It has good fruit,
light character, with the traditional Burgundy flavor and most important not
over oaked.. My second favorite was Silver Stone.
Silver Stone is a new winery currently operating in the old Creston
Vineyards facility (Alex Trebec of Jeopardy fame is the former owner). This
Silver Stone Pinot was
good, a little heavier, but exhibiting the proper burgundy
characteristics. An additional honorable mention was Jack Creek.
A good wine with potential.

Cooking Corner:
(Personal recipes and views on Cooking Paso Style)
Top it with
Sauce
Last month
was the rub, this month I'll share my favorite Barbeque Sauce.
First, in the true Barbeque tradition, sauce is not used during
cooking, but a topping when serving.
1 - 7 oz can Chipotle
Peppers
5 oz - Prunes (1/2 of 10 oz package)
2 cups Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tbsp ground Cumin
1 tbsp granulated Garlic
1 tbsp Coriander
1 29 oz can Tomato Sauce
2 tsp powdered Mustard
In a food processor puree
the Chipotle Peppers, Prunes, and
a portion of the
vinegar to create the puree.
In a large sauce pan on low
heat combine tomato sauce, pepper puree (Warning, this is spicy, you may
choose to reserve a portion until you have tasted) ,
vinegar and dry
ingredients. Simmer for 15 minutes. Store appropriately, either
by freezing or canning.

Style Living Real Estate:
(Real
Estate market conditions in Paso Wine Country)
Market conditions
are changing in the local market, the number of homes sold has
increased over last month, but the inventory of homes for sale has
increased rather dramatically since last month. This is having an
influence on those homes with inflated asking prices, but has not
had an impact on average selling price which is continuing to go up.
